Quilting Edge to Edge
I quilt using digital edge-to-edge pantograph designs. Each design is uniform in nature across the quilt with low-to-medium density characteristics.
My rate is $0.025 per square inch. Example: a 60” x 72” quilt would be 4320 square inches = $108.00.
My minimum rate for quilting smaller items, such as baby quilts, table runners, etc. is $50.00.
Additional costs: Batting is a separate charge from quilting service charge. I supply batting for customer quilts at $9.99 (96”) to $11.99 (120”) per yard depending on width required for size of quilt.
I do not charge extra fee for thread usage; it is included in square inch quilting charges.
Sales tax of 5.5% will be charged on all services and products sold.
Preparing The Backing
Size
Your backing MUST BE at least 4” LARGER than the quilt top all the way around. In order to load it on my quilting machine, I need the additional space for securing clamps. Additionally, the quilting may sometimes go off the edge, and in order to accommodate for that, additional backing fabric is necessary.
To figure out the size your backing should be, you’ll want to measure your quilt top:
WIDTH Measurement + 8” = ________________
LENGTH Measurement + 8” = _______________
Example: If your quilt top measures 52”X 70” you will want your backing to measure at least 60”X 78” If your backing fabric is larger, that is okay!
If the backing you provide is not at least 4” LARGER all the way around the quilt top, I will contact you with a couple of options. Either you can address the issue, or I can. Please know that if I correct the issue, there will be an additional charge depending on what needs correction. We will always agree on additional charges prior to quilting.
Fabric to Consider
Cotton/Flannel – average width is 42”-44”; some cotton fabrics are 58”-60”. Wide width backings are available in 105”-108” (these are the BEST). Please wash and dry flannel backing before sending to me as flannel shrinks several inches easily.
Minky – LOW PILE average width is 58”-60” (wider widths are available). NOTE: Minky that is “fur” cannot be accepted. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me prior to purchasing.
Sewing Your Backing Together
Please consider using a ½” seam allowance (pressed open). A ½” seam allowance will be much more durable than a quarter inch. If you intend on matching your print for your seam – you will want to account for that and buy more fabric!
Remember to remove the salvage edge prior to sewing the backing pieces together. Because the salvage is a much tighter weave, it will cause puckering and not a smooth seam in your backing.
Trimming/Binding
I am experienced in the process of trimming edges, fabricating binding, and attaching the binding to quilts. If you wish to have me finish your quilt, please include additional fabric for binding. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. My rates:
Trimming edges and finishing binding with machine stitch - $0.25 per linear inch around quilt. Example: 60” x 72” quilt would be 264 linear inches = $66.00
Trimming edges and finishing binding by hand stitch - $0.50 per linear inch around quilt. Example: 60” x 72” quilt would be 264 linear inches = $132.00
Shipping
I would like the opportunity to provide my longarm quilting services to you. I live in Wisconsin, USA, and welcome receiving quilt tops and backing via postal mail system. I encourage you to place the quilt tops/backs in plastic bag to protect from moisture during shipping. Then place the bag into hard-sided box, secure with tape, and label clearly. From experience, I have used the heavy-duty mailing bags with success and no damage to the quilts shipped.
Return shipping: I will send your quilt back to you in the same manner using UPSP Priority mail. Priority mail comes with $50 insurance and a tracking number; please indicate if you would like me to place additional insurance with return shipment.
